  PLATFORM

  • Engage Citizens - Not Special Interests - in Decision Making - Residents should have a real voice in the decisions that affect their community.

  • Balance the Residential & Commercial Tax Burden - Ease the disproportionate tax burden on residents by attracting smart commercial development.
  • Align the City’s Transportation Priorities with the Needs of Residents - Removing our cars and reducing parking is not a realistic transportation solution.
  • Neighborhood Appropriate Development – New development must respect the unique character and needs of Alexandria’s diverse neighborhoods.
  • Rent Affordability and a Path to Home Ownership - Our mix of housing options should make rents affordable and accelerate a path to home ownership.
  • Expand Accessible Green Spaces - Increase and improve green spaces and our tree canopy to keep pace with the needs of our growing population.
  • Get a Handle on Flooding and Storm Water Runoff – Provide resources to known flood-prone areas that the city has ignored, with an equitable stormwater management policy.
  • Fix our Schools – Spending $273 million should not earn ACPS a low 15th place in the DMV and a grade of “B-” in academics, teachers, diversity, and sports.

CORE VALUES

As a candidate for City Council, I am committed to serving the community and addressing the pressing issues that impact the daily lives of Alexandrians. My substantial experience in public service has instilled in me a deep dedication and determination to drive significant progress. With years of leadership experience in both the public and private sectors, I understand the complexities of governance and am prepared to actively seek practical solutions that garner collective backing. Unlike others, I recognize the distinction between leadership and management: you lead people, you manage things. Underpinning my commitment a pledge of integrity, transparency and uncompromising ethical standards.
PRIORITIES
Smart Sustainable Growth:

First, I commitment to the preservation and protection of the city's historic districts. These areas are crucial economic engines through tourism and serve to distinguish Alexandria from other communities in Northern Virginia. Our Council has a duty to act as responsible stewards. Additionally, I am dedicated to prioritizing environmental stewardship, safeguarding the watershed, enhancing the tree canopy, and sustaining—and where possible—expanding public parks, green spaces, and open areas. We can achieve these goals while also seeking sensible zoning reforms and advocating for housing affordability measures that prevent overdevelopment, address gentrification, and prioritize community needs over developer profits, even in the face of tempting tax revenue benefits.
Public Safety:

High-quality policing, fire, and emergency services are essential to maintaining Alexandria's status as a safe and desirable community. Policy decisions require the objective input and careful consideration of our public safety professionals. I am committed to ensuring their insights are prioritized and given significant weight in any decision-making process where public safety is a concern.
Economic Development:

Addressing the cost of living and housing affordability will continue to be challenging while 80% of the city's revenue relies on property taxes. I am committed to fostering a business-friendly climate, that encourages entrepreneurship and the generation of higher-paying jobs. This approach aims to expand the tax base without imposing excessive burdens on the small business sector.
Schools:

I am an advocate for education and academic excellence. With roughly 32% of the City's annual budget allocated to ACPS, it is the Council's duty to see that taxpayers are getting a good return on their investment. I will seek to collaborate with the School Board to secure competitive compensation for teachers and staff, while also advocating for increased fiscal discipline, pinpointing redundancies and overlaps between the City and ACPS, fostering ongoing process improvements, identifying waste and inefficiency, streamlining the budget process, and preventing unexpected funding requests.
